About Us

Hi, I'm Freda
I'm a Sagittarius. I can't sing but I do it anyway. I've been working since I was 13. Im not sure if that's a fun fact or illegal. Im a Philly native and I've always had a knack for doing hair. However, my interest in business and finance lead to a degree in business from UMES. I then spent 8 years working in corporate America as an Accountant, Financial Analyst and finally as an Account Executive for Radio One. It was during that time that I rediscovered my love for hair. A chance encounter at the Dreadloc Shop eventually led to a part time job as a Salon Assistant. Working at the salon proved to be far more exciting than my 9-5 so I enrolled in cosmetology school at night.

In 2008 after completing my cosmetology state boards and with very little money saved, bad credit and a desire for more, I left my "good job" and decided to become a full time hairstylist. A year later I took another leap of faith. I took a chance on myself and took over ownership of the Dreadloc Shop.

With over 15 years experience as a Natural Hair Stylist, I still find beauty, versatility and excitement in the ever evolving world of natural hair care. When I'm not in the salon you can usually find me spending time with my husband and two amazing sons.

Hey, I'm Kerri!
I'm a dog mom and lover of all things fashion. Im also a rockstar at starting your locs. Whether you want a quiet appointment or if you wanna chop it up, Im your girl.

Hey, I'm Torae!
I like bar hopping, reading books and playing my violin. My mission as a licensed cosmetologist is to get people to change the way they think about their natural hair so that they learn to love it more.

Hey, I'm Shawntice!
Im a seafood lover that can tell you all the best restaurants in DC. I'm a mom of four but technically 5 because our 4 legged baby Kodi joined the family this January 2025.

I've been doing hair for as long as I can remember. I treated it as a passing hobby for years until I finally decided and accepted that this was something I truly enjoyed doing, making others look and feel good. In January 2025 I become a licensed cosmetologist!!! Did I mention I'm damn good at it!

When I'm not at the salon you can find me unwinding with a hot cup of tea and a warm blanket wathing a good show.

Hey, I'm Nicole!
I'm from Riverdale, MD and I absolutely love doing hair and trying different styles. Low key, I'm a professional chef and tattoo collector.
While attending Northwestern High School, I began working part time at The Loc Shop. It didn't take long to realize that my passion for hard work and beauty would lead to a career in cosmetology. I'm most interested in making sure my clients hair is as healthy as possible.
If you obsess over eating out, shopping and RickRoss the way I do, we're gonna get along just fine.
Hey, I'm Aunt Cher!
I'm a happy retiree that loves working with the Ladies of The Loc Shop. I am a lover of shoes and purses and Nordstrom hates to see me coming. I love mingling with the clientele and getting to know all of our guests. Working here makes me feel young! I spend my free time watching sports with my husband and dining out with friends.
